The street:
All boroughs should be invited to nominate a street which is heavily used but which works poorly. Initiate limited design competitions to make radical improvements.
Boroughs should be helped with finding additional funding to implement the designs. One street to be suggested per borough per year.
The neighbourhood:
All boroughsshould be invited to identify an area in urgent need of environmental and design assistance. Feasibility studies and funding opportunities will be initiated.
The district:
All boroughs should be encouraged to develop programmes for borough-wide environmental improvements.
Skylines/streetscapes:
Street analysis should be carried out which relates use to design and identifies what sort of proposals produce 'dead zones'.
Parks and gardens:
Plans for improving the parts of London which are most poorly served by open spaces should be produced.

Squares and pedestrian friendly areas:
The World Squares project should be supported and used as a model for implementation across London.
Boroughs should be asked to identity a potential civic square or pedestrianised zone, for mayoral backing. One per borough per year.
Street furniture:
An international design competition for a complete new set of street furnitureshould be held. The new designs should be installed in a trial area. Individual boroughs to be encouraged to use the design, or run their own competitions.
Street crossings:
The public should be asked to identity their most-hated street crossings and help boroughs to improve them.
Walkways:
Funding partners should be sought to pursue work on existing projects. Canal routes and other river walkways should be opened for leisure use.

Important buildings:
The use of good architects and/or competitions in all forms should be encouraged to achieve best design. The GLA should act as an exemplary client.
A clear and reasoned policy for tall buildings should be adopted.
The GLA should work closely with English Heritage and its London Division. Public access and information should be provided for key architectural sites and buildings.
Civic buildings:
'Best of London' guides to new schools, surgeries, hospitals, libraries etc.should be published to show client bodies how the best has been achieved.
The Thames:
Policies contained in Thames Strategic Guidance, including the section on design should be pursued and riparian boroughs encouraged to give attention to the River Thames.
More piers, ferries and bridges should be encouraged. The long-term requirement for an additional barrage and its implications for river uses should be investigated.
